Eritrea: Human Trafficking with mobile phones

On April 19, Brandpunt broadcasted a documentary about Eritrean refugees. After Syrians, Eritreans are the largest group of refugees coming to the Netherlands. Journalist Aart Zeeman visited the border of Ethiopia and Eritrea, together with Prof. Mirjam van Reisen and researcher Selam Kidane. The journey showed concerning evidence that measures to stop the flow of refugees may actually be contributing to it.

Mirjam van Reisen on RTL Nieuws (2016)

27 January 2016. RTL Nieuws aired a segment on pressure and intimidation of supporters of the Eritrean regime in the Netherlands. Mirjam van Reisen describes the situation and intimidation that she experienced, such as being followed by a car. The segment also covers the court case on 27 January 2016, in which ex-chair of the YPFDJ, the youth group of the only Eritrean political party, accuses her of libel and slander.

Mirjam van Reisen on NOS Nieuwsuur (2016)

NOS Nieuwsuur aired a segment on pressure and intimidation in the Netherlands, from Eritreans that support the regime. In the segment, Dutch politicians respond to the news that Eritreans in the diaspora and other people who work on Eritrea are being intimidated. Politicians Attje Kuiken and Malik Azmani are shocked by the news and want a thorough investigation.
