African Union to provide visa-free travel for its members' citizens until 2018

Elements for the Valletta Summit Action Plan

councilThe EU Council published a document on 7 October entitled Valletta Summit on Migration: Working Draft Two-Outcome Document. The Valletta Summit is expected to “endorse two documents at the end of its session: a political declaration and an action plan”. This latest document will frame the Valletta Action Plan.

EU Naval Force mission enters in phase 2, moving into international waters and deviating vessels heading to Europe

The EU Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operation EUNAVFOR MED launched on 22 June 2015 to address the issue of migrants dying at sea in the Mediterranean, has moved a step further since 7 October 2015. EU vessels have now entered into the international territorial waters conducting boarding, searches, seizures as well as diversion of boats heading towards Europe. Established in order to combat smugglers and traffickers, this operation raises questions on whether the EU is not sending back asylum seekers in need for protection.
