Eritrea Under Pressure Because of a Landmark UN Report

Credit: eritrea.be(From IDN-InDepthNews) The UN Human Rights Council has adopted a ground-breaking resolution following the presentation of the report by the Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in Eritrea. The Eritrean government has rejected the Commission’s findings.

Dutch Parliament united for strong action against Eritrean regime

Parliamentarians holding petitionOn Thursday 30 June, the Dutch Parliament debated on the influence of Eritrea in the Netherlands. In addition, the human rights situation in Eritrea in relation to European Union development aid and crimes against humanity were discussed. At the start of the debate, Eritreans refugees and members of the diaspora offered a petition to Dutch politicians which has currently been signed over 15.000 times. Three Ministers present in the debate made strong commitments on behalf of the Dutch government.

Dutch Parliament to debate on Eritrea

The Dutch Parliament is set to debate on Eritrea today, 30 June 2016. The debate will specifically focus on the influence of the Eritrean regime in the Netherlands, otherwise known as the 'long arm' of the regime. The Eritrean diaspora has started a petition that will be handed to politicians before the debate.

Eritrea-Ethiopia: UN, AU, EU Can Avert War and Trigger Peace

Credit: UN Photo/Milton Grant.(From IDN InDepthNews) While UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged both Ethiopia and Eritrea to exercise “maximum restraint and refrain from any act or statement that could exacerbate the situation”, reports gathered by IDN from several independent sources close to the border between the two countries and in Eritrea, underscore the grave risks the armed conflict between the two East African countries entails.

Commission of Inquiry on Eritrea Presents its Report at 32nd UNHRC Session

Human Rights CouncilThe Commission of Inquiry into the state of human rights in Eritrea presented its finding to the UN Human Rights Council this week. The Commission concludes that crimes against humanity have been committed in Eritrea.
